The following time line is outlined by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC). This state agency awards construction Grants to public libraries to improve library services to communities.
October 2010 - The Town submitted a letter of Intent to apply for a library construction grant in January 2011.
January 2011 - The Town submited the grant application to MBLC.
May 2011 at the Annual Town Meeting – Hopkinton residents approved the project plan for the Library and also approved change of zoning for both Library parcels to Downtoan Business.
Summer 2011 - MBLC approved the renovation and expansion plan and the town of Hopkinton was awarded $4.5 million in construction grant.
July 2015 - The expected date that MBLC will fund Library Construction Grant, and provide a provisional award. The town must sign a contract to receive the grant by December 2015.
January 2015 – Aproximately $5.2 million needs to be secured from the town and from private donations.
Summer 2016 - Anticipated start of construction.
